Roadtripn' to Redwoods n' Back 2011

...What if skies be wan and chill? What if winds be harsh and stale? ...
Bear you sunwards, while your chance sends you back the hopeful hail:
 ‘Fate’s a fiddler, Life’s a dance.’
-William Ernest Henley

Don't mess. Just don't.
(The sign wasn't necessary. Believe me. The look in his eyes was enough of a warning).

God's wheeling around the sky...because I'm pretty sure those are tire tracks.

"ahhhh, humans!"

twigs.

This image got me thinking a bit about the glory that small things come from. Follow this twig back to its source and you'll find a 100 foot tall tree with deep interconnected roots pushing through rock hard soil with years of proven firmness and strength . Just zoom in on them, yeah, they're wimpy and frail. But look at the bigger picture...look to their source, and you'll find the opposite of wimpy, you'll find strength. It made me think of our source, our God. We're connected to something much bigger than we can comprehend. God's got our back.

It kind of looks like a wave in the sky, no?

Celebrating People: Favorite Portraits of 2010

This blog post is a celebration of people. It is meant to celebrate their beauty, diversity, and individuality. There's not a person on this planet you couldn't love once you've heard their story. People are amazing...each with a story to tell. Each struggles in their own way. Each wins personal and social victories. Each deals with uncertainties. Each finds answers. Each faces hardships. Each triumphs. Each is different. Each is beautiful. Each experiences sadness. Each has jolts of happiness. Each yearns for acceptance. Each is accepted when we embrace and love people for being people.

Learn more about Bernard from Kenya and his story here:
Bernard lost his father (in portrait above) and mother from AIDS when he was a teenager. Left to survive on his own, the gift of education proved to be the key to not only his survival but to his success in life. Bernard has beaten all odds. Bernard is a wonderful example to me.

He found my stolen camera lens in the Costa Rica jungle...? Not sure. He lived in a 3X6 ft. hut on the beach in Puerto Viejo right next to our guest house. This man hails from my adventures in 2009...but because I didn't do this in '09, he made the cut.
